Residents say the local leadership asked them to contribute money towards the end of 2010 with assurance that they will have electricity in six months time after completing the payments.

Accordingly, some residents paid their big share Rwf56.000 each yet the leadership does not explain to them over the electricity delays or inform them if there is something else they should do.

Regine Mukakamanzi and Celestin Byukusenge, one of the residents that paid Rwf52.000 on time with Rwf4000 remaining express it’s too much and that their money should be refunded if it’s no longer possible to get electricity.

“They should inform us if there is no electricity and refund our money as well or explain to us where the problem is,” Mukakamanzi and Byukusenge lament.

However, Executive secretary of Save sector, Jean Claude Kabarisa explains they haven’t got the correct amount of money EWSA asked from them to extend electricity to Munazi cell.

Electricity Water and Sanitation Authorities charged them Rwf8 million but allowed to start the project after paying Rwf4 million and the money contributed so far is close to Rwf2 million.

In addition, Munazi cell asked EWSA to include them on the list of projects to be funded.

Mr. Jean Claude narrates: “Out of 1000 homes that applied for electricity, a few of them paid the money. We should be patient as we contribute and if we get financial support, it will be done quickly.”

The leadership of Munazi cell has promised to take much time and explain to the residents why power has delayed and ask EWSA to explain more on the issue.
