Residents of Gahima cell in Kibungo sector are urging the Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) to supply them with electricity since it is the only cell in the whole sector that has no access to electricity.

These residents do not understand to why their cell was left out of all cells in the sector since their neighbouring cells like Mahango have electricity and with the electricity passing over their cell to other sectors.

The executive secretary of Gahima cell Mr. Jean de Dieu Ndaruhutse says that the cell demanded for electricity from EWSA but they have been waiting all in vain and unfortunately, they are in Ngoma town and in darkness.

Ndaruhutse said; “we demanded for electricity but instead the poles were passed over our heads to Rukira cell and we remained in the middle and in darkness. We are still asking them to reconsider and give us electricity.”

According to Genevieve Mugeni the representative of EWSA station in Ngoma district said the reason this cell was left out was due to the mistakes done in the strategy plan but people should hold on a little longer because they will get electricity very soon.

Mugeni promised the executive secretary of Gahima sector to come over and discuss the issue with EWSA officials for them to lay plans for the cell to get electricity.

Many people have been disappointed with the program of electricity distribution in the villages especially those who live near the main roads or in settlement villages hoping to be the first ones to get access to electricity but the program is prioritizing trading centers and other areas with infrastructure.
