Residents of Gishubi sector have been assured by the governor of the Southern Province of Rwanda that none of them will remain without electricity in their homes and the poor will be supported in different ways to have electricity.

Gishubi sector in Gisagara district recently got access to electricity from the Energy, Water, and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) but it would be a waste if there is electricity in the sector but people still live in darkness of the night.

“I cannot bring electricity into my home because I cannot foot the bills as even maintaining my family is not easy for me” says Paul Bizimana a 46 year old of Gishubi sector.

Marie Akingeneye a resident of Gishubi sector “surely, I cannot manage to pay for electricity in my home. I am a widow who takes care of my children with much difficulty and in fact I am supported by the government but if I can I can be supported to have electricity, I would be grateful.”

Governor Alphonse Munyentwali says people need not to worry about that issue because the administration will support them to get electricity. He said this might pass through different programs like VUP or simply getting electricity to the poor families but it will be done.

Governor Alphonse Munyentwali went on to say that people have to work towards achieving their goals and be able to pay for electricity bills instead of relying on the government to pay subscription fees and also monthly bills.

“It cost the district about Rwf500 million to get electricity to this sector, so the district cannot even pay for people’s bills. People have to work harder to achieve some goals and not stay one step even if they can be supported.”

The government program to distribute development projects to people states that every Rwandan should not be left out without electricity or clean water but people are to play a role and participate in this program.
