More than 70 biogas facilities are set to be built in Burera district in order to promote its use in the area, Performance contracts 2013-2014 have revealed
Burera District administration has urged residents to use biogas as a way of preserving the environment. Biogas is used in cooking, lighting and providing manure.
In 2001 Burera district was rated first that have more residents using Biogas and EWSA awarded the district for the initiative in March 2012.
Out of 1880 biogas units that were built in Rwanda, Burera district alone had 125 biogas units and more 88 were also built in the area in 2011.
Cow dung and urine being the medium of making biogas, Electricity Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) requires whoever wants biogas to have at least two cows and Rwf300, 000 for other equipment and installation.
Rwandans are urged to use biogas in order to protect the environment and get manure for crop productivity.
