Residents in remote areas of Ngororero district have resorted to using small solar energy panels for lighting as they wait to get access to electricity.
While 2000 homes in Ngororero get electricity every year, residents in remote areas are anxiously waiting for electricity to start on development activities.
Solar panels are used in different sectors of Ngororero where electricity has not been distributed. However some residents cannot afford them due to the poor living condition.
Simon Sibomana, a resident of Muhororo sector told rwandaeye.com that he uses solar energy just because electricity has not yet reached his area.
He said that electricity is far better compared to the small solar panel he has that cannot perform some tasks other than lighting.
Sibomana explained: “We are eagerly waiting for electricity supply in our sector.”
Out of close to 75000 homes in Ngororero district, over 2000 get electricity every year according to the district statistics.
