The New Forest Company (NFC), an electrical appliance factory will produce about 1000 electric poles weekly, to reduce the lack of electrical materials in the country.
The factory which will operate in Uwinkingi sector, Nyamagabe district will manufacture electric materials including wires and up to date charcoal from specific trees to be drawn from Nyungwe forest.
During the official inauguration of the factory on March 26th, 2014, the Minister of Natural Resources, Stanislas Kamanzi, said the company will reduce on imported electrical appliances and produce strong and up-to-date electric materials like wires.
NFC is the first of its kind in Rwanda and will save on power imported items.
“Rwanda through the Electricity Water and Sanitation Agency (EWSA) has been spending a lot of money buying electric poles from other countries and this company comes as a solution to eliminate such expenses, it also quickens the construction processes since we have the material at home,” says Emmanuel Mudacumura, Director of in Nyamagabe district.
NFC entered into a contract with the government of Rwanda to harvest and reforest the buffer zone around Nyungwe National Park for 49 years after which the contract will be renewed.
